Nofollow (rel="nofollow") is an attribute that provides a way for webmasters to tell the search engines to not follow a specific link. Google generally doesn't follow nofollow links. This means that it doesn't transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links. However, the target pages may still appear in Google if other sites link to them without using the nofollow attribute, or if the URLs have been submitted to Google Webmaster Tools. Other search engines may handle the nofollow attribute in slightly different ways.
